Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is recognised as a global threat. To date, in the veterinary sector it is not recognised on the same scale as in human medicine, but with closely linked ecosystems, including pets and owners. It is vital that interventions to reduce the emergence and spread of AMR are all-encompassing, with active participation by everyone. These interventions must impact positively on health and welfare of all sectors.
Factors influencing the development of AMR
Interaction of factors influencing development of AMR are complex, but in summary, antibiotics are shared, bacteria are shared and bacterial resistance is shared.
